Love letter ritual to express how you feel
Writing by hand makes you slow down and choose every word, which is why a love letter reaches deeper than any quick message. Traditionally, pink is linked to tenderness and hibiscus to joyful passion. This ritual helps you put into words what you feel for your partner, for someone special or for the love you wish to receive. It does not try to change anyone’s will: its power lies in sincerity and in the courage to express yourself.
In short: Writing by hand makes you slow down and choose every word, which is why a love letter reaches deeper than any quick message. You need 5 simple items and 5 steps. When: On a Friday, the day of Venus, or during the waxing moon.
When to do it
On a Friday, the day of Venus, or during the waxing moon. Any quiet afternoon or evening when you have half an hour with no rush and no screens.
What you need
- A pink candle in a stable holder
- A cup of hibiscus tea
- Nice paper, an envelope and a pen
- A few dried hibiscus petals or a small dried flower
- A candle snuffer or a teaspoon
Step by step
- Make the tea and place the candle in its holder on a stable surface, away from curtains and well clear of the paper. Light it and take a first slow sip.
- Before you write, think of three moments or gestures of that person that touched you. If the letter is for a love who has not arrived yet, think of how you want to feel by their side.
- Write the letter by hand, without drafts: start with what you are grateful for, go on to what you feel now and end with a wish for you both. Use simple words that are truly yours.
- Read the letter softly by candlelight, slip a few dried petals into the envelope and say: “My words are born of love and arrive with tenderness.”
- Put the candle out with the snuffer or the teaspoon, without blowing. Hand the letter over in person, leave it where they will find it or keep it in your bedside drawer until you are ready to give it.
Safety first
Never leave a lit candle unattended. Place it in a stable, heat-resistant holder away from curtains, paper, children and pets, and put it out with a snuffer.
These rituals are symbolic. Do not ingest herbs or oils, ventilate the room when burning incense or herbs, and never perform a ritual to harm or control anyone.
To finish
You do not need a special occasion: an unexpected letter is often the most treasured gift. Never leave the candle burning unattended and keep the paper and petals away from the flame. If the letter was for a future love, reread it at the next waxing moon and add a new line. To keep nurturing the relationship, pair it with the memory box ritual.
