Nutmeg ritual to open new sources of income

For centuries nutmeg was one of the most valuable spices in the world, traded almost as if it were gold. In folk tradition, a whole nutmeg is carried in the purse as a charm for prosperity and opportunity. This ritual uses that symbolism for something very practical: looking at your talents with fresh eyes, thinking of new ways to earn money and committing to a realistic first step.

When to do it

During the waxing moon, on a Thursday, the day of Jupiter, or a Wednesday, the day of Mercury, linked to trade. Also at the start of a month or when you feel your income has stalled.

What you need

  • A whole nutmeg, not grated
  • A small cloth pouch or envelope
  • A sheet of paper and a green pen
  • Your diary or phone calendar

Step by step

  1. Sit somewhere quiet with the nutmeg in your hand and take a deep breath. Notice its warm scent and think of the prosperity you want to build through your own effort.
  2. On the sheet, draw three columns: what you do well, what people often ask you for and what you would like to learn.
  3. Cross the columns and write at least five ideas to earn some extra income or improve what you already have: selling things you no longer use, offering a service, reviewing your rates…
  4. Choose just one idea and put a small first step with a date for this week in your diary. Place the nutmeg in the pouch with the folded sheet and say: “My talents open paths and money reaches me in new ways.”
  5. Carry the pouch in your bag or keep it in the drawer with your paperwork. Every Thursday, take it out, review your progress and add one more step.

Safety first

These rituals are symbolic. Do not ingest herbs or oils, ventilate the room when burning incense or herbs, and never perform a ritual to harm or control anyone.

To finish

When the idea brings its first income, celebrate by setting part of it aside as savings. Use the nutmeg only as a charm and do not eat it: in large amounts it is unsafe for people and animals, so keep it out of reach of children and pets. After a year, you can swap it for a new one. To organise what you earn afterwards, pair it with the star anise ritual.
