Pen ritual to open new career opportunities

A pen signs a contract, writes a cover letter and jots down an idea that can change everything. In this ritual you choose a new one and "charge" it with your career intention: you write down what you are good at, what you are looking for and the first step you will take. From then on, that pen goes with you to interviews, meetings and applications as a reminder of your worth.

In short: A pen signs a contract, writes a cover letter and jots down an idea that can change everything. You need 4 simple items and 5 steps. When: On a Monday or Thursday morning, during a waxing moon.

When to do it

On a Monday or Thursday morning, during a waxing moon. Also before you start job hunting, when preparing for an interview or when pitching an idea at work.

What you need

  • A new pen you like (blue or green ink, for example)
  • A small notebook
  • Your CV, your professional profile or the proposal you want to present
  • A glass of water

Step by step

  1. Tidy your desk and leave only the notebook, the pen, your CV or proposal and the glass of water on it. Take a sip and breathe deeply three times.
  2. Use the pen for the first time by writing on the first page of the notebook: "I open myself to new work opportunities."
  3. Underneath, write five concrete strengths with an example of each, for example: "I solve problems: I reorganised the team's shifts."
  4. Describe in three lines the job or achievement you are aiming for and note one first step you can take today: send an application, message a contact or update your profile.
  5. Take that step today and, once it is done, tick it off in the notebook with the pen and say: "My work and my talent open doors."

Safety first

These rituals are symbolic. Do not ingest herbs or oils, ventilate the room when burning incense or herbs, and never perform a ritual to harm or control anyone.

To finish

Take the pen to interviews and important meetings and use it to note down every step you take. Reread your strengths before each appointment. To organise your week, pair it with the Monday coffee ritual.
