Puzzle ritual to bring your group of friends together
A puzzle only makes sense when all the pieces fit, and each one is different from the rest. Groups of friends are much the same: everyone brings their own way of being, and together they form something nobody could achieve alone. This ritual turns a get-together into a small tribute to the group: each person writes a memory or a wish on a piece and, at the end, the finished picture remains as a keepsake of what you share.
In short: A puzzle only makes sense when all the pieces fit, and each one is different from the rest. You need 5 simple items and 5 steps. When: At the full moon, the phase of fullness, or at any special gathering: an end-of-year dinner, a holiday reunion or the group’s anniversary.
When to do it
At the full moon, the phase of fullness, or at any special gathering: an end-of-year dinner, a holiday reunion or the group’s anniversary.
What you need
- A blank puzzle to decorate with large pieces (or thick card cut into pieces)
- Fine-tip coloured markers
- A cardboard base or a simple frame
- A glue stick
- A bowl to hand out the pieces
Step by step
- Before the gathering, write the group’s name or a word that represents you in the centre of the base, and put the pieces in the bowl.
- When everyone is there, each person takes one or two pieces and writes on them a happy memory of the group or a wish for the coming year.
- Read the pieces aloud, one at a time, without rushing. Laughter and stories will come up: they are part of the ritual.
- Assemble the puzzle together on the base. When the last piece clicks into place, say together: “We are different and we fit together.”
- Glue the pieces down, take a photo so everyone has it and leave the puzzle at the home of whoever hosts the next gathering.
Safety first
These rituals are symbolic. Do not ingest herbs or oils, ventilate the room when burning incense or herbs, and never perform a ritual to harm or control anyone.
To finish
The puzzle can travel from home to home at each gathering, and each time you can add a new piece on the back of the base. Keep loose pieces and the glue out of reach of small children and pets. To keep celebrating friendship, pair it with the shared bread ritual.
