White candle ritual to let go of the day calmly
Sometimes the day keeps spinning in your head long after it has ended. This evening ritual helps you write down what is still pending, close the day with a symbolic gesture and move into rest more calmly. It does not replace professional support if you need it; it is a simple self-care habit.
In short: Sometimes the day keeps spinning in your head long after it has ended. You need 4 simple items and 5 steps. When: In the evening, about an hour before bed, especially after an intense day.
When to do it
In the evening, about an hour before bed, especially after an intense day. It works in any moon phase, and a waning moon adds a special sense of letting go.
What you need
- A small white candle in a stable holder
- A notebook and a pen
- A bowl of cool water
- A small towel
Step by step
- Dim the lights. Place the candle on a non-flammable surface, away from curtains and papers, and light it.
- Write down whatever is on your mind and, next to each item, the first step you will take tomorrow or "not up to me".
- Close the notebook and say: "That is enough for today. I let the day go."
- Dip your hands in the cool water, dry them slowly with the towel and take five deep breaths, breathing out more slowly than you breathe in.
- Put out the candle with a snuffer, pour the water down the sink and leave the notebook outside the bedroom.
Safety first
Never leave a lit candle unattended. Place it in a stable, heat-resistant holder away from curtains, paper, children and pets, and put it out with a snuffer.
These rituals are symbolic. Do not ingest herbs or oils, ventilate the room when burning incense or herbs, and never perform a ritual to harm or control anyone.
To finish
Repeat the ritual on the nights you need it: with practice, your mind learns that closing the notebook means closing the day. Tomorrow, start with the first step you wrote down.
