Lavender ritual to make up after an argument as a couple
Even couples who get along wonderfully argue now and then: tiredness, housework or a small misunderstanding that grows. What matters is not never arguing, but knowing how to find your way back to each other. Lavender, with its soft scent, is traditionally linked to serenity and harmony at home. This ritual helps you lower the tone, truly listen to each other and close the quarrel with a shared gesture.
In short: Even couples who get along wonderfully argue now and then: tiredness, housework or a small misunderstanding that grows. You need 4 simple items and 5 steps. When: Once the most intense part of the anger has passed and you both want to fix things, ideally the same day or the next.
When to do it
Once the most intense part of the anger has passed and you both want to fix things, ideally the same day or the next. The waning moon is the traditional phase for releasing tension.
What you need
- A handful of dried lavender
- A small cloth bag or a little bowl
- Two pieces of paper and two pens
- Two glasses of water or a herbal tea you both like
Step by step
- Sit facing each other somewhere quiet, without phones or screens. Place the lavender in the bowl between you and breathe in its scent slowly three times.
- Each of you writes on your paper how you felt, starting with “I felt…”, without blaming or labelling the other person.
- Read the papers in turns. Whoever listens does not interrupt; when the other finishes, repeat in your own words what you understood.
- Each of you suggests one small, concrete gesture for next time, for example: “if I feel overwhelmed, I’ll ask you for five minutes before we keep talking.”
- Put the lavender in the cloth bag, tear up the papers and put them in the recycling. Hang the bag in the bedroom or wardrobe as a reminder of your peace.
Safety first
These rituals are symbolic. Do not ingest herbs or oils, ventilate the room when burning incense or herbs, and never perform a ritual to harm or control anyone.
To finish
Making up does not mean one person always gives in: it is about both of you feeling heard. This ritual is for everyday disagreements; if a relationship involves fear, insults or control, it is not something a ritual can fix: talk to someone you trust or seek professional help. The lavender is only decorative: do not eat it and keep it out of reach of children and pets. To keep nurturing your bond, pair it with the cardamom ritual or the blanket ritual.
